Press Release

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

For immediate release;

The tiny village of Greenodd in South Lakeland on the River Crake is fighting to save their post office from closure.

Following a public meeting in the village hall, where over 350 local users of the post office attended last week, the inugural meeting of their steering group met last night in the village to begin the task of convincing the Post Office that Greenodd should remain open.

A team including a Solicitor, graphic and web designers and business development skills are confident they can prove the Post Office serves over 2000 people in five local parishes.

Early indications of post code locations will mean over 240 people will have to drive, or use inadequate public transport, over 6 miles to Ulverston using the infamous A590 Greenodd junction, as notorious accident blackspot.

They now have their own web site - www.saveourpostoffice.net where free downloads and an e-petition are available for everyone to use around the World who has some connection with the Cumbrian village.

A series of events and protests are currently being explored which will raise the profile of the campaign.

Bridie, the Post Office mascot owned by Postmasters Janet and Lloyd Willis, will feature in attracting attention to the cause.
